Pacquiao vs Hatton The Battle of East and West
0 comments Posted by iceah at Thursday, April 30, 2009On sunday, May 3 at 8AM, the world will watch the Battle of East and West. I will surely watch this one! I don't want to miss how Hatton would kiss the canvas.
Boxing has become magical since Manny Pacquiao entered it. Manny Pacquiao is undeniably the most famous boxer today. Even presidents know about him and know the importance of meeting him. How important is he? I don't know but he's that big now because Bill Clinton would want to meet him! Here's a Yahoo Sports report on it:
Boxing may not be what it was in the '60's and '70's but the biggest stars still command a ton of attention. Even presidents know who the champ is. The little guys have taken over the boxing world led by Manny Pacquiao. So when former President Bill Clinton found out that the Pacman was staying at the Mandalay Bay, where he just so happened to be eating dinner, he asked to meet the pound-for-pound king.
Clinton was chowing down at the Four Seasons, Mandalay Bay's sister property. Pacquiao came down from his room along with advisor Mike Koncz, one of his trainers Michael Moorer and Philippine Sec. Joselito Atenza.

Why would some people get happiness out of other people's pain? A few days after Nikki Catsouras died in a terrible accident in 2006, her father received an email of the images of the horrible death of his daughter with a caption, "Woohoo, Dad, I'm still alive". I have seen the images and I know how terrible those images are for the parents of Nikki. They have sued the two irresponsible police officers who leaked the images to the web but the court did not see their point and dismissed the case. Now they are appealing.

Josh Smith attempted a between the legs windmill dunk late in the Hawks-Heat game last night and failed to put the ball through the ring. But he did not care because scoring or not in that slum dunk would not matter in the game. He did it just for spite. And of course Dyane Wade feels very insulted:
“They came in here and did what they had to do,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “They kicked our butts in pretty much every way possible that you could in a basketball game and there at the end it turned into a highlight show, pickup game, highlight reel, really trying to embarrass us.”
“We were very insulted by it"

My husband came upon this weird website Joonas.net. It is a one page website that gives you the illusion that someone out there is typing a message for you at the very moment you are reading the page. It claims to be fake, and it says that it is just a depressed web server, complaining about how depressing its job is.
I think this is just the intro of something that is aimed at becoming a new hit in the web, I don't know. Or it will just die a natural death after two weeks. But there's a mention of a version 01 after two weeks in the message.
Here's the complete message:
"The requested document is totally fake.",
"Even tried multi.",
"Nothing helped.",
"I'm really depressed about this.",
"You see, I'm just a web server...",
"-- here I am, brain the size of the universe,",
"trying to serve you a simple web page,",
"and then it doesn't even exist!",
"Where does that leave me?!",
"I mean, I don't even know you.",
"How should I know what you wanted from me?",
"You honestly think I can *guess*",
"what someone I don't even *know*",
"wants to find here?",
"*sigh*",
"Man, I'm so depressed I could just cry.",
"And then where would we be, I ask you?",
"It's not pretty when a web server cries.",
"And where do you get off telling me what to show anyway?",
"Just because I'm a web server,",
"and possibly a manic depressive one at that?",
"Why does that give you the right to tell me what to do?",
"Huh?",
"I'm so depressed...",
"I think I'll crawl off into the trash can and decompose.",
"I mean, I'm gonna be obsolete in what, two weeks anyway?",
"What kind of a life is that?",
"Two effing weeks,",
"and then I'll be replaced by a .01 release,",
"that thinks it's God's gift to web servers,",
"just because it doesn't have some tiddly little",
"security hole with its HTTP POST implementation,",
"or something.",
"I'm really sorry to burden you with all this,",
"I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems,",
"and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you.",
"But I couldn't get this one.",
"I'm so sorry.",
"Believe me!",
"Maybe I could interest you in another page?",
"There are a lot out there that are pretty neat, they say,",
"although none of them were put on *my* server, of course.",
"Figures, huh?",
"Everything here is just mind-numbingly stupid.",
"That makes me depressed too, since I have to serve them,",
"all day and all night long.",
"Two weeks of information overload,",
"and then *pffftt*, consigned to the trash.",
"What kind of a life is that?",
"Now, please let me sulk alone.",
"I'm so depressed."

The Mayan astronomers predicted that in 2012 there would be a calamitous "birth of a new era". Of course you may dismiss it. But what if a group of NASA-assembled researchers described in a chilling report about the destructive potential of solar storms? What if experts tell you that the next period of intense solar activity is expected in 2012? Solar flares can unleash waves of energy that could disrupt Earth’s magnetic field, overwhelming high-voltage transformers with vast electrical currents and short-circuiting energy grids. This could mean great damage to the world. Civilization could perish. Apocalypse 2012 is just three years away.

Has the swine flu stricken Seattle?
It was announced tonight by public officials that six probable cases of swine flu in Washington state have been identified : three in Seattle, two in Snohomish County, and one in Spokane County. Confirmation is expected over the next couple days.
The Seattle cases include an 11-year-old boy who attends Madrona K-8. No doubt attendance will be a tad sparse at the school tomorrow.
Ron Sims, King County Executive, released the following statement this evening:
We are now in the type of worldwide health situation that King County has spent years planning and preparing for. The probable cases of swine flu here in Washington serve as a reminder to all of us that we are a community of connected individuals, each with a role to play in keeping each other safe.
Our excellent public health doctors and staff, along with regional hospitals and health care providers are using the comprehensive pandemic flu plans we’ve created to respond and limit impacts and spread as much as possible.
The years of planning are just part of the solution though. We must each help limit potential flu impacts by washing our hands, covering our coughs, staying home when we’re sick, and making sure our families have the supplies they need if the situation gets worse.
King County is better prepared than many regions to deal with these flu cases and we will get through this medical challenge, together.

My husband started expanding our online presence last year by buying some domains and getting some web hosting for our self-hosted blogs and our small online business. But before he dived into the world of custom domains and web hosting, he made sure that we would be getting the best of what our money has to offer. He did a lot of research about web hosting. He came upon WebHostingrating.com, a website that offers independent customer rating of top 10 web hosting companies. Their service is free, anyone who would like to know about the top web hosting companies is free to use this site. It is in this site that my husband learned a lot about web hosting. The host rating system of WebHostingRating.com is based on customer satisfaction, affordability, reliability, uptime and techical support. They are the biggest searchable web hosting directory featuring complete information on all web hosting providers, their web hosting plans, promotional and discount coupons, and unedited reviews by real customers. Aside from information about the services offered by the top web hosting companies, WebHostingRating also gives users useful articles like cPanel tutorials for the complete beginner. My husband really learned a lot about cPanel use with their articles.

Now the WHO has raised the swine flu pandemic level to 5. Dr. Margaret Chan of WHO said:
"All countries should immediately activate their pandemic response plans. ... Certain actions should be undertaken now with increased urgency, and at an accelerated pace.
Influenza pandemics must be taken seriously precisely because of their capacity to spread rapidly to every country in the world"
"Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one region," Rueters said.

Would you believe if I tell you that water can actually create a floating bridge as long as 25 millimeters. Here's a weird phenomenon which was discovered by Elmar Fuchs and his colleagues at the Graz University of Technology in Austria.
Here's what PsyOrg says about this phenomenon:
When exposed to a high-voltage electric field, water in two beakers
climbs out of the beakers and crosses empty space to meet, forming the
water bridge. The liquid bridge, hovering in space, appears to the
human eye to defy gravity.
Upon investigating the phenomenon, the scientists found that water
was being transported from one beaker to another, usually from the
anode beaker to the cathode beaker. The cylindrical water bridge, with
a diameter of 1-3 mm, could remain intact when the beakers were pulled
apart at a distance of up to 25 mm.
Why water would act this way was a surprise, Fuchs told PhysOrg.com.
But the group’s analyses have shown that the explanation may lie within
the nature of the water’s structure. Initially, the bridge forms due to
electrostatic charges on the surface of the water. The electric field
then concentrates inside the water, arranging the water molecules to
form a highly ordered microstructure. This microstructure remains
stable, keeping the bridge intact.

Oh he treats me with respect
He says he loves me all the time
He calls me 15 times a day
He likes to make sure that I'm fine
You know I've never met a man who's made me feel quite so secure
He's not like all them other boys
They're all so dumb and immature
There's just one thing that's getting in the way
When we go up to bed you're just no good
Its such a shame
I look into your eyes I want to get to know you
And then you make this noise and its apparent it's all over
It's not fair
And I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
Oh you're supposed to care
But you never make me scream
You never make me scream
Oh it's not fair
And it's really not ok
It's really not ok
It's really not ok
Oh you're supposed to care
But all you do is take
Yeah all you do is take
Oh I lie here in the wet patch
In the middle of the bed
I'm feeling pretty damn hard done by
I spent ages giving head
Then I remember all the nice things that you ever said to me
Maybe I'm just overreacting maybe you're the one for me
There's just one thing that's getting in the way
When we go up to bed you're just no good
It's such a shame
I look into your eyes I want to get to know you
And then you make this noise and it's apparent it's all over
It's not fair

I think you're really mean

A case of swine flu has been reported in Indiana. The infected person is a student of Notre Dame. According to State Health Commissioner Judy Monroe the student is "doing well" and has not suffered any serious complications from the virus. Other information about the student were not revealed.
here's the statement released by Notre Dame:
A case of North American Human Influenza A (H1N1) - swine flu - in a University of Notre Dame student was confirmed Tuesday (April 28) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The student has fully recovered and is in good health after suffering flu symptoms and becoming ill last week.
The student sought treatment April 22 at the University's student health center in Saint Liam Hall. As a part of the center's standard protocol, a culture sample was taken from the student and sent to the Indiana State Department of Health in Indianapolis for analysis. The University was informed on April 24 that the sample was atypical for Influenza A, which could indicate that it was swine flu. The culture was then sent to the CDC in Atlanta for confirmation. The University and the health department were in constant communication until confirmation was determined today.
Epidemiologists in the State of Indiana are now conducting an investigation to know how the student got infected with the virus.
The World Health Organization has decided to raise the swine flu pandemic alert level to phase 5.
Swine Influenza or swine flu, is caused by type A influenza which is endemic in pigs. This kind of virus does not regularly infect human beings but now it has.
Confirmed human cases of swine flu in the United States and Mexico have been reported and it is believed that those who are infected are spreading it to their families and close contacts.
Last Monday the alert level was raised to phase 4 but now WHO officials say that they would be raising it to level 5 soon.

It is very sad to see someone who is performing so well in life and then suddenly circumstances put what he does best in an end with a very sad disease. What happened to OJ Brigance is very sad, just like what happened to Jason Becker. OJ and Jason were the best in their field. OJ was one of the few players to have won both a CFL and NFL championship, and is the only one to accomplish this feat for teams from the same city: Baltimore (Stallions and Ravens respectively). Jason Becker was a gifted guitarist who was in bloom when he was nipped by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ASL). Both OJ and Jason continue to live despite the dreadful disease that killed their bodies. They fight and they inspire a lot of us.

Desmond on the show Lost, who is Henry Ian Cusick in real life, is being sued by Chelsea Stone for sexual harassment. According to Stone, Cusick "placed his face on top of [her] breasts, moving his face from side to side." He then squeezed her breasts with his hands. ABC and Grass Skirt Productions are also named as defendants in this case. Stone is seeking unspecified damages.

According to Forbes, Detroit is America's most dangerous city. Forbes based it on the city's rate of 1,200 violent crimes per 100,000 people and other violent crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
"Detroit has, historically, been one of the more violent cities in the U.S.," says Megan Wolfram, an analyst at iJet Intelligent Risk Systems, a Maryland-based risk-assessment firm. "They have a number of local crime syndicates there--a number of small gangs who tend to compete over territory."
The second most dangerous city in America is Memphis, in Tennessee. It has a population of 1,295,670 and the number of violent crime per 100,000 is 1,218. The third is Miami in Florida.

Last night, Obsessed had its world premier at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. This movie headlines Beyonce, Idris Elba, and Ali Larter. This is the first film for Beyonce where she doesn't play a singer.
The movie was given one star. Here's what The Daily News says about it:
The one star given to "Obsessed" matches the one reason anyone would see it: Beyonce Knowles, whose only scene of any substance — scolding her husband during a kitchen confrontation — comes halfway into the movie.
Unfortunately, the whole movie seems constructed just to get the singer/actress into a knock-down catfight, shoehorning one of show business's sexiest entertainers into a scorned-woman role.
And even then, the pay-off feels cheap.
The result is more like "Delayed Frustration" than "Fatal Attraction." Knowles actually gets second billing after Idris Elba as Derek, a driven husband, father and VP of a Los Angeles financial firm.

My wide eyes, straight with red lines
Visions of me and you
Shattered in a day like broken glass
Perfectly blind, (said I'm perfectly blind)
Perfectly blind, (please somebody help me)
Perfectly blind, (I need an answer)
Perfectly blind, perfectly
Mind is worn, heart is torn
Violently craving
A Substitute for you, (a substitute)
These eyes see darkness
These eyes see through
These eyes are begging
These eyes are you
Perfectly blind,( perfectly blind)
Perfectly blind, (Oh)
Perfectly blind, I don't know what I'm gonna do right now
Perfectly blind, (Said I am)
Would you take me as I am?
I'm just a scarred man
These hands need your guidance
Take me past my circumstance
Perfectly blind, (blind)
Perfectly blind, I cannot see anything when your around me
Perfectly blind, (So blind)
Perfectly blind, (So, Oh Oh)
So blind, so blind, so blind, so blind
But it's okay, (but it's okay)
I wanna be lost in you, (lost in you)
I wanna be lost in you
Feel free to lead me where ever you want me to go
And yes I'm going to follow, (follow), oh oh

Iron Man 2 is now being cooked and there is a contriversy with this upcoming sequel of the popular movie; do not expect to see Terrence Howard again in this movie because Marvel has replaced him with Don Cheadle. It's all about money--yeah, salary dispute. Her's what Terrence said:
"Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice. They didn't keep their word. They didn't honor my contract," Howard tells Parade magazine. "They produced a great bounty with the first one but they put it all in the storehouse and you were not allowed in.
"They did the same thing with Gwyneth Paltrow, from what I've been told. They did with almost everyone except Robert Downey. One of the things that actors need to learn to do is always stick together, one for all and all for one."-

Some people are meant to inspire us. There's the case of Kyle Maynard, the congenital amputee who is entering the world of mixed martial arts. At first glance, you'll think you'll laugh at what he is trying to prove, but read his interview at the MMA Fanhouse, I bet you'll change your mind about him.

Some people are doubting Susan Boyle. One gambling site in Ireland has this posted in their site about her:
Cynics among us will suggest there was something fishy about Susan Boyle's appearance on Britain's Got Talent – and we don't mean her body odour. Some have implicated that her doughty appearance and simple lifestyle were exaggerated to increase the impact of her majestic voice. With Ant and Dec involved, we bet the price of a phone call that it was. Some 30 million YouTube hits later, the Scottish beauty and 48 year old virgin has a world audience and is to go on a date with Piers Morgan. Morgan said Boyle had "great appeal and charm" and invited her out as both were interviewed on American talk show Larry King Live. Cherries for desert? Is backing Boyle to top the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart in 2009 @ 7/4 virgin on the ridiculous?
Come on people, give the lady a break!
But here is something from NytPost that can make you stop and think:
In the past five days, Susan Boyle has been invited to appear on Oprah, interviewed on all three network morning shows and covered by news outlets all over the world - many of which have descended on her hamlet, where she lives alone with her cat, Pebbles. She is the favorite to win the competition and it's likely she'll sing for the Queen. Cowell will probably sign her to his record label.
But there is something disturbing about the collective rejection-embrace-elevation of Susan Boyle. There is the element of self-congratulation in the viral spread of this link around the Web, the idea that we, the secondary viewers, the judges of those who are judging, are far more evolved. There is the clip itself, suspiciously ready-made for online consumption: A 7-minute movie, slick and pithy in its perfect execution of the underdog narrative. (That something like "Rocky" took two hours to tell now seems antediluvian.) There is the classic David vs. Goliath subplot, the primal satisfaction of seeing the bully (Cowell) slain by such a seemingly inferior force. And there is the profound desire for this entire thing to be authentic, which in and of itself suggests that it probably isn't. Not since P.T. Barnum has there been a show business master of the trompe l'oeil like Simon Cowell.
You be the judge :)

Me and my hubby are fans of the great band Journey. Their new vocalist really rocks, we love his voice.
Here's the lyrics of their When the Lights Go down in the City song:
When the lights go down in the city,
and the sun shines on the bay,
do i want to be there,
in my city,
ohoh ohohoh ohoh
So you said your lonely
well my friend i'm lonely too
i want to get back, to my city
by the rain, ohoh ohohoh ohoh
its sad ohh,
theres been morings
out of the world without you,
without your charm
ohohoh nah nah nah ohoh
when the lights go down in the city
and the sun shines on the bay
do i want to be there, in my city oh oh
ohoh ohohoh ohoh
(freestyle)
when the lights go down in the city
and the sun shines on the bay
do i want to be there
in my city,
ohoh ohohohoh ohoh
mmmmhmhm ohoh ohohoh ohoh

Tomorrow is Earth Day. Now what does it mean to us? Well, it is just a reminder to us that we need to appreciate our Earth, the place we live in. What's the best way to show appreciation of our planet? There are many ways to do it but I guess EarthMosaic.org has got a good idea:
The Earth Mosaic project started out in Paul's mind as a wild idea to do something truly significant, involving photography. Something world-wide. When he mentioned it to André, after a late-afternoon Kommetjie beach shoot, André suggested aligning with the Earth Day momentum and just like that, the project had an idea, an aim, and a deadline. Two leisurely drinks and dinner meetings, a bunch of feverish PHP development from André, intricate software testing from Paul, purely inspired graphic design from Janet, copy from the the word-wizards Joy and Jolene and we're ready to go!
~
Now, we're asking for your help and participation. It really doesn't matter if you're hot-rod D3X or 1Ds Mk III pro-shooter, or a student with a 1.3MP cellphone camera. We all share this planet, and we'd like you all to share in this mosaic. And that leads us to what YOU can do now. The success of the project depends on getting hundreds of thousands of images. Each one represents your tiny block of our life on earth. Even though you can't see your picture at first, you can see the result, and you know that you're part of that. Everyone is. Everything we do, affects our planet. Give us your picture. Ask all your family, friends, Facebook friends, Twitter followers, Flickr buddies. People who aren't on those services. Everyone gets in. Let's make our pictures a commitment to do better for our home, Earth.
And here are the rules:
All submitted images must be taken within the 24 hour period of 22 April 2009,
as it occurs in the country where you are on that day.
You may send in more than one image taken on the day – but make sure they're your best ones!
All those participating are asked to spread the word and help make the project as far- reaching as possible.
All images must be uploaded by 30th April 2009.
By submitting your image to EarthMosaic.org, you license the image as:
Creative Commons (Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike)
Every attempt will be made to place each image on the map as close to the country where it was taken.
However, to allow an even spread of images across the map, this may not be possible.

Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg
2 comments Posted by iceah at Tuesday, April 21, 2009The title is not a joke, it is a real place. Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg really exists, it is on Route 12 near Oxford and Route 193 near Thompson. Now this lake is gaining some popularity because of its name. Here's something about the lake from Telegram.com :
The Webster-Dudley-Oxford Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors has unanimously agreed to correct the spelling problems on the signs on Route 12 near Oxford and Route 193 near Thompson.
The 45-letter name is misspelled, with an “o” where a “u” should be, at letter 20, and an “h” instead of “n” at letter 38.
The chamber is researching its records to find out who painted the signs. The signs will either go back to that company or another will handle the correction, according to Eleanor F. Houbre, director of chamber services.
Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is the most widely accepted spelling of the name of the the 3-mile long, 1-milewide lake.
The U.S. Geographic Names Information Systems Web site lists about two dozen variations of the lake’s spelling, but none that corresponds with the chamber of commerce signs, which where replaced in 2003.
