Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees did not allow the cast of Thank You For The Music to use "Staying Alive" as part of a major AIDS awareness campaign across Europe. The reason why Barry Gibb does not want Stayin Alive to be part of the show is because the cover version of the song in the show "sounds so similar to the original".
“I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.” Martin Spooner, who plays Robin Gibb in the show said. He doesn't know if he is disappointed or happy about sounding too similar to Bee Gees.
