Is it possible to not use a diaper for your baby? I guess many moms don't think that it is not possible to do away with diapers. But there is what they call Elimination Communication, a practice in which a caregiver uses timing, signals, cues, and intuition to address an infant's need to eliminate waste. Here is how it is explained in Wikipedia:
Typically the goal is to partially or completely avoid the use of diapers. EC emphasizes communication between the caregiver and child, helping them both become more attuned to the child's innate rhythms and control of urination and defecation. The term "elimination communication" was inspired by traditional practices of diaper-less baby care in less industrialized countries and hunter-gatherer cultures.[1] Some practitioners of EC begin soon after birth, although it can be started with babies of any age.
Ingrid Bauer coined the term elimination communication which she uses interchangeably with the term natural infant hygiene in a book she has written which is entitled Diaper Free! The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene. Bauer discovered natural infant hygiene and elimination communication after she traveled to India and Africa where she noticed that mothers in those places did not bother to use diapers at all for their babies but there are no "elimination (of waste) accidents." She then worked out on it and slowly discovered the process which is now known as elimination communication.

Thanks for posting and commenting in an open-minded way (I.e. not bagging it from the start!) about elimination communication to help more interested parents discover this fun activity.
Carpets are ok when practicing EC - as your baby can wear a diaper / nappy between potty visits or be on a waterproof mat!
Cheers,
Charndra
