If you've heard the story or received an email about us having two moons on August 27th, don't believe it. The Two Moons on 27th August is a hoax that dates back in 2003. It is also known as Mars August 27 or Two Moons hoax.
In 2003, an email circulated around the web which went like this:
27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for.............
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

But the truth is, even if it is true that on August 27 Mars will be closest to the Earth (with a distance of 34,649,589 miles from us), it won't be as big as the moon as seen from earth. It will be bright and visible to the naked eye but it won't be as big as the moon.
