The internet is littered with predators waiting to pounce on the careless ones. There is a new rogue anti-spyware program which fools internet users to think that it is a legit antivirus when in fact it does the very opposite of what a normal antivirus does--infect your system. This rouge anti-spyware is Green AV or Green Antivirus 2009. The uninitiated ones would easily think that this AV is legit because it looks quite legit and it even says that it cares about the environment and it donates $2 from its every sale to help preserve the environment (hence the name "Green AV"). If you have downloaded and installed this rouge anti-spyware, you'll notice that your browser's setting is suddenly changed and unwanted commercials start appearing in an annoying matter while you browse the web. Green AV also connects to the internet without your permission and it hides itself in the background.
If your system is now infected with this annoying malware, don't panic because it can be removed from your system. I have found a good Green AV remove how-to from SoftSailor.com which explains clearly how to remove Green Antivirus 2009. Here it is:
Stop the process
Press the Start + R keys, then type “taskmgr” and press Enter. Find GreenAV2009.exe and gav.exe, select them and press “End Process”.
Delete the registry entry
Press Start + R, then type “regedit” and press Enter. Locate this registry entry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Green Antivirus 2009″ and delete it. Be careful not to delete other entries by mistake because it may cause your computer to stop working.
Delete the Green Antivirus 2009 files
Find and delete the following files: greenav2009.exe, install[1].exe, gav.exe.
Labels: Green Antivirus 2009, how to remove
Good info, I hope this helps people get rid of green av. I've personally removed this virus countless times this week, but I use automatic removal tools.
