Times change. When I was a kid the word "pet" can only mean a little cute animal that one takes care of, like a kitten, or a hamster, or a turtle, or rabbit, or anything cute that has a life of its own. Now, the realm of pets has expanded into the non-living animals. Many kids today have virtual pets, like in Facebook, my little son has a pet in Pet Society that he feeds and takes care of everyday. It's a virtual pet. Now another kind of pet is becoming popular among kids, the Zhu Zhu Pets which are hamsters that are battery operated. The video below shows kids playing with their Zhu Zhu Pets.

I saw a commercial for them, they are actually pretty cute!
I wonder how many "takes" they had to do in order for the commercial to look good. I see that they are on ebay (a few) at crazy prices. Do not pay more than $7.99 for the hamsters. I think the attachments are $14.99 ($42 on ebay) and the base station is $19.99 at Toys R Us.
where did you buy that i will just buy it at toys r us if you don't reply
i need one....drool, lol they sound fun
Hopefully the tracker that we put up can help some of you out there in the quest to get your hands on these guys.
As the holidays approach, it's only going to get harder!

What is with these "crazes" for toys? Do we really let our kids control us like this? Okay, okay... yeah, I'm guilty too. But I will say this, I checked these out at the toy expo BEFORE they were huge and fell in love with them then. Too bad I didn't know they would be this popular. I could have ordered several right away. Instead, I've been hardpressed to find some of these for mysel... erm.. I mean, my kids. I attempted the whole Black Friday thing, but was too late (really, is 5AM too late???). I finally broke down and bought a set (1 or each) from the getzhuzhu.com site. I should get them later this week or early next. That's all fine and good, but this morning I read there are 4 NEW hamsters. Ouch. Maybe next year...
I think there is such a demand for these toy hamsters not so much because of the marketing but because kids really enjoy these toys.
Made in China? Toxic toy recall?!
Oh my, China poisoning our youngsters yet again. What a shock.
Zhu Zhu Pets are amazing toys for your little ones, but they are really hard to find. I finally found a great deal on Zhu Zhu Pets from ZhuZhuPetsInstock.net, I got them for $25 each. I'm happy.
