What is the Carla Hughes Verdict? The verdict is "guilty" for the capital offense of killing a pregnant woman. Carla Hughes was found guilty of killing Avis Banks who was then pregnant. Banks was shot in the leg, buttock and head and then stabbed in the face and neck on Nov. 29, 2006, in the house she shared with her fiance Keymon Pittman. Pittman was a teacher in the same school where Hughes also taught. Pittman and Hughes were having a sexual relationship and Hughes probably wanted Pittman to be hers alone so she decided to kill the pregnant Banks.
Carla Hughes could get any of the two: life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or death penalty.
