During the first few hours of the Gulf war in 1991, an F/A-18 Hornet plane was shot down by Iraqi forces. This fighter plane was piloted by Navy pilot Michael Scott Speicher who became the only American to be missing in action in the Gulf War. Now, 18 years after he was lost, US Marines in western Anbar Province, Iraq, found the Navy pilot's remains. Marines in western Iraq had received information from local citizens last month about the crash of an American jet and the burial of the pilot. During the years when no one was sure about what really happened to Speicher, many speculations came out; some people believed that he was capture and became a prisoner of war. But now, there is evidence that he died when his plane crashed and he was buried by local citizen who found his body.
