Some leaks are intended for publicity and boosting sales (like leaked trailers of movies) but in the case of the Kid Cudi album leak, it's very unfortunate for the the artist because his “Man on the Moon” album is now available for download for free from torrent sites even before its official release. This is of course a very big loss on the part of Kid Cudi.
